Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Patricia. No, in the original fairy tale by Anderson (and not
Hallmark's version), the Snow Queen was not responsible for the mirror; that was the work of a wicked hobgoblin/demon and the mirror was shattered when pupils from his school of devils--he apparently had been taking cues from the ancient Athenians :)--grew bored with seeing the people and things of earth twisted and contorted in its reflection and tried to fly up to heaven to observe the angels. But it slipped from their fingers and fell to earth, shattering in thousands of pieces, the shards of glass getting in people's eyes and sometimes even into their hearts. You can even see their black and white lithograph at
http://hca.gilead.org.il/snow_que.html if you'd like. In any case, though as you say about the many layers of meaning of fairy tales, it does seem to reflect the Christian idea of original sin or at least metaphorically examine what it is that can make otherwise good people become so bad.
Yes, lately it has been autumn for me. No Hurricane Wilma in my life but just the incessant winds blustering their airy prelude to the winter season. I like academic: academic is good. But sometimes the leaves begin to fall from the tree and one desires a little different tact: no less philosophic perhaps but imbued with a certain poetic voice that sometimes expresses things in ways highly analytic language obscures.
In any case, thanks for stopping by and leaving your "calling card." It appears you have done some creative writing of your own. :)
God bless,
Eric
