What kind of chat lines? Are we talking something like Xanga blogs, or sex and porno chatlines?
Often when people get into addictions it is to deal with pain of some sort that they don't currently have the tools to cope with. When you mix guilt into the equation, "i know this doesn't please God," it can make it a vicious cycle of feeding the addiction to deaden the pain, only to feel guilt, so you have more pain to deal with and feed it more frantically.
If this stems from loneliness, there are certainly productive avenues to take. If you don't have friends to hang out with, you can find some at church or wherever else you like to be. When I used to get very lonely, I would go to the mall just to be around other people. There are websites and blogs where you can connect with others of similar interest. Whatever it is, rest assured there are ways to get your needs met without harming yourself or others.
It is important to know that you are not alone, even if you feel alone in handling this. It would be good to have someone to share this with, someone you could trust to listen to you in a nonjudgmental environment. They're around, you just have to dig a little sometimes to find them. And of course it's good to pray that God direct you to the people you need to help you. You're online anyway, you can start there. Internet is neither good nor bad. It's a tool and can be used for building up or destruction.
Good luck. I'll pray for you, and I'll be interested in seeing what others have to say also, not least Le Penseur himself, so be sure to check back.
