It is true; often we do not realize how much influence those around us have until they are gone. While we should not be absorbing the personalities of others in lieu of our own, we can certainly "use" others to help us determine who we are and who we are not, what we want to be like and what we do not.
In the end, I would have to agree, God created us to live in community and we need one another.
