Eric, what you say is so true, and it reminds me of the proverb, Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it.
It often appears the child has departed from the way he was taught, but very often we are blind to the way the Lord works on the hearts of those around us - ways we would never suspect in the people we would least suspect. Often, as you alluded to, the Lord takes what He has at hand, the very things we are using to rebel, to sin, in order to draw us close to Him in ways we have no idea until we look back and see His fingerprints all over our lives after all.
