truth & chocolate

Figuring out "the truth" is tricky enough, but now I'm reading parts of the Gnostic Gospels and trying to assess the "truth" of diverse revelations, many of which, when interpreted, seem to contradict each other and everything I thought I understood about the nature of Christ, etc. I'm beginning to think it's almost impossible to discern who Christ is or was. We seem to see in Him what we need and want to see, which is okay I guess, but, confusing to those of us who have not yet developed a real relationship with Him. I guess the problem is a result of trying to comprehend something intellectually, rather than emotionally or intuitively.
BTW, and this is totally irrelevant but it made me shake my head and sigh...I went to a candy store and they were selling chocolate crucifixes. Isn't that so bizarre? Jesus wasn't on the crosses...but still! Talk about a decline in the sense of holiness...
