Don't fool yourself into thinking that sin is not the central issue. Without sin there would have been no separation from God and therefore no need for Jesus to die on the cross. Even after our salvation sin is serious. It was and is rebellion against God and it results in broken fellowship until it is confessed and repented of. God loves us as a Father, but He will not tolerate rebellious children. There are plenty of scriptures that point that out.
