Dear Eric – To be truthful, I’m not sure you have anything to apologize about: your words expressed an admonition to all of us all to identify and access the motives for whatever it is we do in the name of Christ; to reflect upon how others might view our “tactics”; to be sensitive. I think you summed it up best with your statement: “On our part, I think the language we are called to speak is that of authenticity, however this might manifest itself. Each one of us is uniquely gifted: there are no two people exactly alike in the overlay and combinations of gifts and talents they possess."
For whatever it’s worth, Eric – I wouldn’t expend “too” much energy attempting to weed out “the thistles and the thorns” - for undoubtedly you will never get rid of them all; worse, others will sprout up where you never expected. As far as your “perspective (growing) considerably dimmer” – reflect on how far God has brought you; how much he has taught you; just how much he loves you. It is easy to get discouraged in this life; take heart: God is proud to call you His son. And from my heart to yours - I’m honored to think of you as a fellow sojourner.
