LeeAnn:I am Francis a friend of Eric's.He asked me to reply to you, and, perhaps to suggest some sources to check out for your interest in predestination. I would have to say that I am a bit of a "closet Calvinist",but also a "mere Christian"(re:C.S. Lewis). At the outset,I felt in your post that both you and Eric were members of the elect of God. And that is why he and your are protected in path through life. You might study the acronym of T.U.L.I.P. This stands for Total Depravity-Unconditional Election-Limited Atonement-Irrestible Grace-Perseverance of the Saints. That is a starting point and contrary to what a lot of people think its not all of Calvinism. Election (predestination Eph. 4)is a stimulating subject to study and very humbling. So,get your concordance out and get started! Here are some links to get you started. Eric has on his website some helpful links. Hall of Church History-Lambert Dolphin-Christian Ethereal Library. Also, check out www.mountzion.org. Here, you can find many links to what you want. You can download books of the noted Calvinist authors e.g. A.W. Pink,Charles Spurgeon,Horatius Bonar,Lorraine Boettner(he is a man),etc. In essence, much food for thought and the writings are well-developed and amply supported by scripture. Well, hope this helps! I want to let you know many if not all of the great theolgians from England to early America as in the Founding Fathers were strong adherents of the doctrine of predestination/election as well as the other tenets of the TULIP. But they weren't just intellectuals they also were men of God deeply loved the Lord and fellow man/woman and did much to serve in the society they lived in the name of Jesus Christ. I am sorry to say this strikingly missing in today's society. America needs to repent and come back to God much as in the days of these great men. Questions? Send your posts our way-Francis
