Jean,
It seems to me that you are making a distinction between "thinking" and "doing" as if they were mutually independant. Yet, it seems to me that "thinking" is a behavior and "doing" requires mental engagement and that these two are not inseperable.
If we are, as Genesis 1-3 claims, created in the image of God, then our ability to express behavior comes from His nature. If we are, as Romans 1 suggests, in rebellion against our Creator and permeated by sin, our behaviors whether in "thought" or "action" cannot be reconciled to our Creator without or apart from His intervention. The uniquely Christian answer to this is supplied in the person of Jesus.
I wonder, if Adam had not thrust the human race into sin, would discontent have this much influence on our behavior? Or does the Serpent's temptation of Eve indicate that the propensity for discontent existed in humanity as a part of the original design? Should we embrace the reality of our discontent as part of what it means to be created in the image of God- a Creator who often uses the language of discontent to express His longing for more relationship with humanity?
