I think that Christians become self-righteous when they attempt to put themselves on a certain plane in their relationship to God. Then they begin to judge others by the standards that they have set in their lives. In essence they begin to try to work for salvation and judge others by their standards as if they have an exclusive connection with God. This is very dangerous! Christians will never become good witnesses and will never reach the lost with this attitude. Christians can only reach the lost with love. Jesus did not condemn sinners, he simply told them to go and sin no more. All Christians have to realize that we will be judged with the same measure that we judge. The Christian church is losing its focus with the world. It expects the lost to come to it, not that it has to go reach the lost. It is so involved with its self-righteousness that it has lost its love for the world. I mean its true love for the world. Yes, we all need fellowship and support, but our main focus, never to forget, is to proclaim the good news that Jesus came to give people life, and to remove EVERY sin that anyone has ever committed. That HE can take someone's messed up sinful life, forgive those sins forever, and give them a clean, fresh new start. What a Savior!
